Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli claimed victory at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday, securing his sixth win of the 2026 Formula 1 season and strengthening his grip on the drivers’ championship.
The Italian championship leader crossed the finish line first in Round 10 of the Formula 1 World Championship, finishing two seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed the podium, ending the race 11 seconds behind the winner.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton initially finished fourth but faces a post-race investigation by the stewards over an alleged unsafe release, which could result in a penalty and cost him his position. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri rounded out the top five.
One of the standout performances of the day came from Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, who climbed from 21st on the grid to sixth place thanks to an inspired strategy by his team. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished seventh.
Antonelli’s latest triumph sees him extend his lead at the top of the championship standings to 45 points. The Mercedes driver now sits on 204 points, ahead of Hamilton in second place with 159.
The race featured several dramatic moments, including an early collision involving Hamilton and fellow title contender George Russell. The incident forced the Mercedes driver to retire, while Hamilton was handed a five-second penalty after being found responsible for the clash.
Formula 1 now heads to Hungary for the Hungarian Grand Prix, the 11th round of the 2026 season, which will take place from July 24 to 26.
