After the Court of Cassation on Wednesday confirmed Achraf Hakimi’s referral to trial for rape, his club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expressed its support for the player.

France’s highest court confirmed on Wednesday that Hakimi will stand trial before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court for rape. The Atlas Lions captain, who has denied the allegations since the beginning of the proceedings, will therefore be tried in a case that was opened in 2023.

The case dates back to 2023, when a young woman accused Achraf Hakimi of raping her at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt. The player, now 27, was placed under formal investigation in March of the same year. He has denied the allegations since the beginning of the proceedings.

Following the decision to send Hakimi to trial, PSG told AFP that “Achraf Hakimi has always firmly denied the allegations against him and remains presumed innocent to this day.”

“The club is committed to preserving a calm and respectful working environment for its player, in line with the fundamental principles of law,” the club added, recalling “its constant and unequivocal commitment to combating all forms of violence, particularly sexual violence.”

Fanny Colin, Hakimi’s lawyer in the case, also told AFP: “The allegations against Achraf Hakimi, which he has firmly denied since the first day, were not examined by the Court of Cassation.”

She again said that Hakimi, “who has nothing to hide,” had “fully cooperated with the police and judicial authorities and will continue to do so.”
