Real Madrid and several of Europe’s top clubs are monitoring developments in the Manchester City case, as the sanctions the club could face remain undecided after it was found guilty of 114 of 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches between 2009 and 2018.

According to The Athletic, the potential sanctions range from fines and points deductions to, in the most severe scenarios, measures that could affect the club’s continued participation in the English Premier League.

Should Manchester City’s project face a major sanction, it could have sporting and financial repercussions for the squad, a situation being monitored by major European clubs, led by Real Madrid, which has previously been linked with several players from the English side.

Real Madrid’s interest in the Manchester City case is further linked to three players who were on the Spanish club’s radar before joining the English side this summer, namely Ayoub Bouaddi, Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez.

However, even a severe sanction would not automatically mean Manchester City’s stars would leave the club, especially since the final punishment has not yet been handed down and the proceedings and any appeals could continue for a long time.

The future of these players therefore remains dependent on the outcome of the case and the final sanctions rather than simply the guilty verdict.
