Ajax Amsterdam announced on Sunday, August 30, that it had signed Moroccan international midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a contract running until June 30, 2028.

Ajax reached an agreement with Amrabat, with his contract taking effect immediately and running until June 30, 2028.

Jordi Cruijff, the club’s technical director who first contacted Amrabat in April, said: “We are delighted to have secured Sofyan’s signing. Physically strong and technically gifted, he has extensive international experience. He also knows the Dutch league, which makes us confident that he will settle in quickly. With Sofyan, we have signed exactly the type of player we were looking for.”

Amrabat, 30, joins Ajax as a free agent following the end of his contract with Fenerbahçe. He had been close to signing permanently for Real Betis after spending last season there on loan, but the expected offer never arrived.

The Atlas Lion, who has 78 caps for Morocco, is therefore returning to the Netherlands, where he was born, and to the Eredivisie, where he emerged at Utrecht in 2015. It is his first return to the league since leaving Feyenoord for Club Brugge in August 2018.
