Carlos Alcaraz will return to competition at the 2026 US Open after a four-month absence due to a right wrist injury.
The 23-year-old Spaniard confirmed on Thursday that he will defend his title in New York, announcing his return in a social media video with journalist Fabrizio Romano.
“I am back. Here we go,” Alcaraz said in the video.
The world No. 2 has not played since April, when he injured his right wrist during his opening match against Otto Virtanen in Barcelona. He has since spent four months recovering and recently returned to the practice court in his hometown of El Palmar.
Alcaraz arrives in New York as the defending champion after beating Jannik Sinner in the 2025 final. That victory earned him his second US Open title and a return to the world No. 1 spot.
The Spaniard had made a strong start to the 2026 season before his long absence. He went 22-3 during the first four months of the year, winning the Australian Open and the Doha title.
His Australian Open triumph also made him the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam, having now won all four major titles.
Alcaraz has a 24-3 record at the US Open and will now attempt to add another title in New York.
The 2026 US Open begins on August 30, with the men’s final scheduled for September 13.
