The Atlas Lions celebrated Achraf Hakimi’s 100th appearance for the Moroccan national team on Thursday, July 3, in Houston. The ceremony was held during the team’s preparations for Saturday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup round-of-16 match against Canada.
The entire squad, coaching staff led by Mohamed Ouahbi, and Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, attended the tribute.
Hakimi reached the symbolic milestone of 100 caps on Monday, June 29, during Morocco’s round-of-16 victory over the Netherlands (1-1, 3-2 on penalties). The Atlas Lions captain became the second-most capped player in the history of the Moroccan national team, behind Noureddine Naybet, who holds the record with 115 appearances.
A Morocco international since 2016, Hakimi earned his first senior cap on October 11 of that year in a friendly match against Canada. Nearly 10 years later, he will face the same opponent again, this time in the FIFA World Cup round of 16.
At 27, the right-back is playing his third FIFA World Cup, having featured in the 2018 and 2022 editions, and his first as captain. In 100 appearances for the national team across all competitions, he has scored 12 goals and provided 19 assists.
