Marrakech has a new underground car park, adding 429 spaces beneath 16 November Square in Gueliz, one of the city’s busiest districts.
The two-level facility, spread over nearly 9,500 square metres, opened on Sept 7 and can also take 60 motorcycles. Ten charging points have been installed for electric vehicles.
Drivers can enter from Hassan II Avenue or Oued El Makhazine Avenue. Exits lead onto Hassan II and Cadi Ayyad avenues, spreading traffic across the roads around the square.
The car park is open around the clock. Three automated payment machines and 35 information and guidance screens have been installed, along with cameras covering the facility.

Parking has been free since the opening. That changed on Sunday.
The first hour will cost MAD 5, followed by MAD 3 for each additional hour. The charge is MAD 17 for four hours, MAD 25 for eight, MAD 30 for 12 and MAD 40 for 24 hours.

Monthly car passes cost MAD 570 for round-the-clock access. Daytime access from 6am to 8pm costs MAD 420 a month, while a night pass from 8pm to 6am is MAD 270.
Motorcycles will be charged MAD 3 an hour, MAD 5 for four hours, MAD 6.50 for eight, MAD 8 for 12 and MAD 10 for 24 hours. Monthly passes cost MAD 250 for full access, MAD 200 for daytime use and MAD 120 for nights.
The membership card costs MAD 50, with subscriptions available for a minimum of three months.
Work did not stop below street level. The space above the car park has been redeveloped along with 16 November Square, with green areas, new lighting and spaces for activities and performances.
The new tariffs approved by the Marrakech municipal council take effect on Sept 20.
