Since September 15, 2026, holders of Moroccan passports can no longer enter Thailand without a visa. Morocco has, in fact, been removed from the new exemption scheme introduced by the Thai authorities. Moroccan travelers must now apply before departure and obtain a visa corresponding to the purpose of their stay.
The decision was announced on September 1 by the Consular Affairs Department of Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It ends the regime that Moroccan nationals had benefited from since July 2024, which allowed them to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa.

The new system first reduces the duration of the general exemption from 60 to 30 days, while also limiting the number of nationalities covered. The new list includes 60 countries eligible for the 30-day exemption, including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Turkey, but not Morocco.
A visa application before departure
Moroccan passport holders are now among the 21 nationalities that have completely lost access to the general visa exemption regime. Other countries are also affected, including Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Albania, Jamaica, Monaco and Panama.
As a result, Moroccans will have to obtain a visa before traveling to Thailand. A tourist e-Visa application can be submitted through the official Thai platform, as the e-Visa system has been extended across the country’s entire diplomatic network.
In addition, the Thailand Digital Arrival Card remains mandatory for all foreign travelers. This digital arrival card must be completed before entering Thai territory, including when a traveler already holds an electronic visa.
It should be noted that the new regulations do not apply retroactively to Moroccans who had already entered Thailand. Those who arrived no later than September 14 will retain the length of stay granted to them by Thai immigration authorities, which could reach 60 days under the previous regime.
The reform thus ends a system introduced by the Thai authorities on July 15, 2024. Under that regime, Moroccan nationals could travel to Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 60 days, particularly for tourism or certain short business trips. A 30-day extension could also be requested directly from Thai immigration authorities, subject to their approval.

The removal of this privilege comes as tourism exchanges between the two countries are growing. In 2024, around 40,000 Moroccan tourists visited Thailand, and this momentum has continued in 2026.
