Abderrahim Chahid, re-elected as a member of parliament for Zagora and a member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), has been appointed Minister of Employment and Social Dialogue in the new government named by King Mohammed VI on Friday. He takes charge of a key portfolio widely regarded as a challenging one.
A member of the USFP’s political bureau, Chahid served two consecutive terms as head of the party’s parliamentary group in the House of Representatives. He also stood out for his fierce criticism of the government led by Aziz Akhannouch.

With unemployment hovering around 13%, the new employment minister will need to pursue innovative policies and incentives to stimulate the labor market, particularly by directing more investment toward job creation and businesses.
Chahid will also be responsible for leading social dialogue between the government and the country’s economic and social partners, including employers’ organizations and trade unions. Key challenges include reforming pension funds and increasing pension benefits.
