A video circulated on social media and news websites as showing the deliberate targeting of an election candidate was in fact a hit-and-run traffic accident with no connection to an electoral dispute, preliminary findings by prosecutors in Jadida have found.
The King’s Prosecutor at the Jadida Court of First Instance said an investigation was ordered after claims began circulating alongside footage of the incident, presenting it as the “elimination of a candidate.”
The preliminary investigation found those claims to be “without foundation.”
Prosecutors said the incident was a traffic accident in which the driver fled the scene, with nothing uncovered so far linking it to an election-related dispute.
The investigation remains under way to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine what legal action should follow in light of its findings.
