Voter turnout picked up through Wednesday morning, reaching 11.34pc nationwide by noon, four hours into Morocco’s legislative elections.
At 10am, only 4.23pc of registered voters had cast their ballots. Two hours later, the figure had more than doubled, according to the Interior Ministry.
Polling opened at 8am and will run until 7pm, giving voters an 11-hour window to elect a new 395-member House of Representatives.

The Interior Ministry said voting was proceeding normally and smoothly across the country.
Some 15.8 million Moroccans are on the electoral rolls this year. They are choosing from 7,288 candidates fielded on 1,850 lists across the country’s local and regional constituencies.
The noon figure is the second nationwide turnout reading of the day, with seven hours of polling still to go.
