The government has decided to set up an interministerial committee to monitor prices and prepare measures to protect household purchasing power, with particular attention to products in high demand during Ramadan.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri in Rabat on Tuesday, amid concerns over the impact of price fluctuations on household budgets.

According to a government statement, the committee will bring together the ministries concerned and meet periodically to assess price movements and determine what action may be needed.

The government said low- and middle-income households were particularly exposed to current economic pressures.

El Mansouri told the meeting that protecting purchasing power remained a government priority and called for measures to cushion households against rising prices while ensuring that essential goods remained available in the market.

The committee will pay particular attention to products whose consumption increases during Ramadan, when demand places additional pressure on food markets.

The meeting was attended by the ministers responsible for the interior, economy and finance, agriculture, industry and trade, and transport, as well as the secretary-general of the government.
