The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) on Monday announced its decision to join the government being formed by head of government-designate Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, saying talks between the two sides had shown broad agreement on the direction of the next administration.
The decision was taken by the party’s political bureau at a meeting in Rabat, following deliberations within its central committee.
In a statement, the PPS said its consultations with El Mansouri had been held in a “positive atmosphere, marked by trust and broad convergence on fundamental orientations and viewpoints.”
The party said it had also considered the proposed government program, the agreement to be reached among coalition partners and the composition of the incoming majority.
It maintained that joining the government was “the best choice in the current context and circumstances,” allowing it to take part in pursuing reforms.
The PPS said it would seek to advance democratic reforms, safeguard rights and freedoms, promote integrity in public life and address social and territorial inequalities.
It also identified strengthening the national economy as a priority.
The party pledged to play an “effective, efficient, bold and responsible” role in the new government and honor its commitments.
