The PPS is keeping its options open on joining Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri’s government, with party chief Nabil Benabdallah saying after talks on Wednesday that an internal debate was still under way—and pointingly noting that his party had “a lot in common” with the PAM.
“We are continuing our internal debate and will decide in the coming days,” Benabdallah told reporters after a meeting of more than half an hour with the designated Head of Government at PAM headquarters.
He was accompanied by PPS political bureau members Rachid Hamouni, Fatima Zahra Barasat and Touria Skali. The party won 19 seats in the Sept 23 election.
Benabdallah congratulated El Mansouri on her appointment and recalled the PPS’s support for women’s rights before turning to the political and economic ground discussed during the meeting. He cited the need to regain citizens’ trust, tackle the rising cost of living and address youth unemployment.
Then came a remark likely to carry more weight as the PPS decides where it wants to sit in the next legislature.
“We also have a lot of things in common with the PAM,” Benabdallah said.
The PPS spent the outgoing legislature in opposition. Benabdallah gave no commitment on Wednesday to crossing over to the government benches, leaving that decision to the party’s continuing internal discussions.
His meeting brought El Mansouri’s first day of consultations to a close after a succession of delegations passed through PAM headquarters.
RNI and Istiqlal, PAM’s partners in the outgoing majority, were received first. El Mansouri then widened the talks to the Popular Movement and USFP before sitting down with the PPS.

The meetings have begun to put the parties on record even before a coalition takes shape. RNI promised to help El Mansouri without saying whether it would join her government, while Istiqlal spoke of moving beyond electoral rivalries and will put participation before its National Council.
The PPS has now given its own answer: a decision in the coming days, with common ground with PAM already acknowledged.
