Casablanca police have debunked a viral social media claim alleging that a sub-Saharan migrant had lured a 12-year-old girl into a cemetery to sexually assault her, saying an investigation found that the woman shown in the footage was in fact a 21-year-old adult and had not been assaulted.

The Casablanca Police Prefecture launched an investigation after a video circulated widely on social media on Friday, Aug. 14, showing a man and a young woman inside a cemetery.

The footage was accompanied by written commentary and an audio recording claiming that the man was a sub-Saharan migrant who had trapped a 12-year-old girl with the intention of sexually assaulting her.

Police investigations prompted by the video established a substantially different account.

Authorities identified the woman seen in the footage and confirmed that she is 21 years old, contradicting claims that she was a 12-year-old minor.

Investigators also determined that she had not been subjected to any sexual assault. According to police findings, she was at the cemetery at the time the video was recorded to consume drugs.

The woman was subsequently arrested after being caught in possession of an anesthetic patch.

She was placed in police custody as part of an investigation being conducted by officers from Casablanca’s Aïn Sebaâ-Hay Mohammadi security district under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

The investigation remains underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and identify any criminal offenses connected to it.
