“Europe and Denmark need a reliable friend like Morocco,” Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said after meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, in Copenhagen on Friday.
Speaking to the Danish press, Rasmussen said the meeting produced positive results and will be followed by a strategic partnership agreement covering political, security and economic cooperation, including climate and investment issues.
The agreement is expected to be concluded in December in Rabat. Rasmussen said the two countries are taking the time needed to reach an agreement that will benefit both Morocco and Denmark. The two sides will also establish a chamber of commerce.

Rasmussen said he also discussed bilateral security cooperation with Bourita, particularly the extradition of criminals. The issue will be addressed in greater detail under the strategic agreement now being prepared.
On the Moroccan Sahara, the Danish foreign minister reiterated Denmark’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan. He said Denmark is discussing the issue with Morocco and could adjust its position to move closer to that of the United States.
“Morocco is our ally on the southern flank,” Rasmussen said.
Bourita paid a working visit to Denmark on Friday, where he was received by his Danish counterpart.
