A judicial investigation has been launched by the judicial police in Larache, acting on instructions from the competent public prosecutor, following false statements and unfounded allegations made by a woman who had attempted to migrate irregularly.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the suspect made misleading claims during an interview with a news website that was later widely shared on social media.
She alleged that “official authorities” had opened the borders to people seeking to migrate irregularly and further claimed that those same authorities “had transported the migrants before abandoning them and preventing them from entering the occupied city of Ceuta.”
Given the seriousness of the allegations, which may constitute criminal offenses, police identified the woman and questioned her as part of the judicial investigation, the DGSN said.
She was subsequently referred to the judicial authorities on charges including reporting fictitious offenses, disseminating false information, as well as defamation and insult.
According to the preliminary findings of the investigation, the suspect had voluntarily traveled to Fnideq with the intention of entering Ceuta irregularly.
After failing to breach the security measures put in place by the public authorities, she made the false statements, which were then widely circulated without verification of their accuracy, the DGSN said.
