A joint security operation involving the National Police and Customs services, conducted on Tuesday afternoon, November 3, at Tanger Med port, foiled an international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking operation and resulted in the seizure of a total of 971 kilograms of cocaine.

The drugs were discovered during joint border control operations carried out by security and customs services. The cocaine bricks were found inside a refrigerated container aboard a vessel flying the flag of a Latin American country.

Preliminary investigation findings established the route taken by the container carrying the cocaine shipment. It had departed from a port in Brazil and was bound for a port in West Africa.

A judicial investigation has been opened into the case by the Tangier Prefectural Judicial Police Department, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to establish all the circumstances and details surrounding the criminal operation.

Meanwhile, the National Central Bureau (Interpol office in Rabat), under the General Directorate of National Security, has been tasked with initiating international coordination and cooperation efforts to identify the criminal network involved in the operation.
