Klopp has announced a 24-man squad for Germany’s next two matches, against Serbia on November 13 and the Netherlands on November 18. Among the new faces is Wael Mohya, who had also been closely monitored by Morocco’s Atlas Lions.
Born in Mettmann, western Germany, to parents of Moroccan origin, Mohya is taking another step in his young career with his first call-up to the German senior national team.
His situation recalls the case of Ilyas Ebnoutalib, who had also attracted interest from Morocco before choosing to represent Germany.
At the team’s previous gathering in October, the 21-year-old forward had already been called up to the Mannschaft, confirming his decision to play for Germany.
Meanwhile, Mohya, a midfielder at Borussia Mönchengladbach who came through the club’s youth ranks and has represented Germany at various youth levels, has made a strong start to the season. He has made 10 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
