Speaking at his presentation in Cairo, the 56-year-old described Al Ahly as “the best club in Africa,” stating that its history and achievements " speak for themselves."
"I’m very happy to join this successful institution," Ammouta said during the unveiling.
The former Morocco coach acknowledged the expectations that come with leading the Egyptian giants, noting that Al Ahly supporters expect the team to challenge for silverware every season.
“We will do everything we can to achieve the fans’ ambitions and deliver a season worthy of the club’s name," he said.
Ammouta added that he preferred to be judged by results rather than promises, emphasizing that performances on the pitch and trophies would ultimately define his tenure.
Discussing his plans for the squad, Ammouta stated that future signings would be made on merit, regardless of nationality, and only if they strengthened the team. He also backed the current group of players, saying competition for places would be based on performance.
He also stressed the importance of Al Ahly’s youth academy, noting that young players would be integrated gradually to gain experience while maintaining the team’s competitiveness.
Ammouta arrives at Al Ahly with an extensive track record in African and Arab football. The Moroccan has enjoyed success at both club and international level, winning the CAF Confederation Cup with FUS Rabat in 2010, the CAF Champions League with Wydad Casablanca in 2017, and leading Morocco’s local national team to clinch African Nations Championship (CHAN) titles in 2020.
