Nearly three years after taking charge, Jorge Vilda is not expected to continue as head coach of the Morocco women’s national team. According to a source close to the matter, the Spanish coach has left his position, with an official announcement of his departure expected soon.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is already working on his replacement. According to the same source, a French coach is currently the preferred option to take charge of the Atlas Lionesses.

Appointed in October 2023 to replace Reynald Pedros, Vilda took over a team that had just reached a historic final at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Spaniard joined Morocco just weeks after leading Spain to the Women’s World Cup title in 2023.

During his time in charge of the Atlas Lionesses, Vilda led Morocco at two editions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. After reaching the final in 2025, he failed to take the team back to the final in 2026, with Morocco eliminated in the semifinals.

For now, the FRMF has made no official announcement regarding Jorge Vilda’s departure or the identity of his potential successor.
