Azzedine Ounahi’s injury is more serious than initially feared. Further medical tests, conducted nine days after he was carried off during Panathinaikos’ 5-1 win over Asteras on October 18, revealed a complete rupture of the right biceps femoris tendon.

According to a source close to the Greek club, the Moroccan international is expected to undergo surgery this week and could return to action in late March or early April 2027, more than five months after the injury. His initial recovery period had been estimated at two and a half to three months, with a return expected in January.

The revised timeline remains subject to his recovery following surgery.

Ounahi’s absence is a blow to Morocco’s national team, which will be without the midfielder for its upcoming international fixtures. Panathinaikos will also have to do without him for a large part of the season.
