Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren until at least the end of 2030, ensuring the reigning Formula 1 world champion remains with the team where he began his career.
The new agreement includes a multi-year option that could extend his stay beyond 2030. Norris, 26, had been under contract with McLaren until the end of 2027 but has now committed to a longer-term future with the British team.
Norris joined McLaren in 2017 as a test and development driver before being promoted to a full-time race seat for the 2019 season. He made his Formula 1 debut at the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, starting and finishing 12th.
Since then, Norris has developed into one of the leading drivers on the grid, remaining with the same team throughout his career. He has recorded 13 Grand Prix victories, 18 pole positions, and 48 podium finishes in 163 race starts for McLaren.

His biggest achievement came in 2025, when he won his first Drivers’ World Championship with McLaren. This title marked the team’s first drivers’ championship in 17 years, since Lewis Hamilton in 2008, and followed McLaren’s Constructors’ Championships in 2024 and 2025.
“When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships,” Norris said. “We’ve achieved that goal, but we want more. We want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we’re capable of achieving it.
“I can’t wait to get back in the car in Monza, and I’m very excited about what the future holds for us, both over the rest of this season and in the coming years.”
McLaren CEO Zak Brown said Norris’ career with the team reflected its approach to developing young talent.
“Together with Andrea, Oscar, and the wider team, Lando has helped drive McLaren into a new papaya era of success, helping us go from the back of the grid to double consecutive Constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025 and our first Drivers’ Championship in 17 years,” Brown said.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella also praised Norris’ contribution since joining the team’s junior program.
“Since joining McLaren as part of our junior program, he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the front of Formula 1,” Stella said. “This extension gives us important continuity and reinforces our confidence in the direction we are taking together.”
As a gift for the contract renewal, Norris will also receive the MCL39 he drove during his championship-winning 2025 season.
For McLaren, this renewal signifies significant team stability, especially with Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri also contracted through the end of 2028. This stability is particularly valuable for a team that has proven its effectiveness in the last two championship campaigns, winning three out of four championships (two Constructors’ and one Drivers’).
