A day after the draw for the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco’s head coach, Hicham Dguig, shared his thoughts on the Atlas Lions’ group-stage opponents.
“The draw was very balanced. It was based on the national teams’ world rankings, so it was only logical for Morocco to be seeded,” said the national team coach.
Dguig focused in particular on Morocco’s opening match against Algeria, their first opponent in the group. “The draw gave us an important opening match against Algeria, a team we know well with players, especially those in the French league. This team has been attracting a lot of attention recently,” he said.
As the reigning three-time African champions, Morocco will enter the tournament aiming to win a fourth consecutive continental title. “We believe we will be fully ready, and we are preparing for this competition with the goal of defending our title. We are taking our preparations seriously and monitoring our opponents and their matches to avoid any surprises,” said Dguig.

As part of their preparations, the Atlas Lions will play two friendly matches in the coming days. “We will face Bosnia this week and Saudi Arabia next week to prepare our final squad under the best possible conditions and defend our title in front of our home fans,” said the national team coach.
The 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from October 12 to 21, with eight national teams divided into two groups.
