Formula 1 and the FIA have confirmed that the Bahrain Grand Prix will be held at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit from October 2-4, preserving the event on the 2026 calendar after it was earlier postponed because of regional tensions.
The race, which remains subject to final agreements and approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, will take place between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The rest of the 2026 calendar remains unchanged.
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, originally scheduled earlier in the season, were temporarily removed from the calendar due to the regional situation.
With Bahrain now reinstated through the Sepang agreement, the Formula 1 season returns to 23races. The status of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, however, has yet to be determined, with no decision made on whether the race will take place later this year.
The agreement was reached between Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, ensuring Bahrain retains a place on this year’s schedule despite the disruption.
Sepang, which first hosted Formula 1 in 1999 and last appeared on the calendar in 2017, is regarded as one of the sport’s most demanding circuits, renowned for its passionate fans, unpredictable weather and challenging layout.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the agreement highlighted the championship’s ability to adapt and find solutions while maintaining a full calendar for fans.
He added that “Malaysia is an incredible country, and Sepang holds a special place in Formula 1 history. It will provide a spectacular setting for racing and an unforgettable experience for fans.”
