Ismael Saibari will miss Morocco’s 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal against France after failing to recover in time from the injury he sustained against Canada in the Round of 16.
The Bayern Munich midfielder was forced off in the 22nd minute of Morocco’s 3-0 victory over Canada and has not taken part in any of the Atlas Lions’ training sessions since leaving the pitch. Despite the medical staff’s efforts and a race against time over the past few days, he has not recovered in time for Thursday’s clash with Les Bleus.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, head coach Mohamed Ouahbi confirmed the 25-year-old’s absence.
“Everyone is available except Ismael Saibari. This game comes a little too soon for him. But I hope he won’t be ruled out for the rest of the tournament,” the Morocco coach said.
Saibari’s absence is a significant setback for Ouahbi on the eve of the quarterfinal, depriving Morocco of one of its most influential players. The attacking midfielder has been one of the Atlas Lions’ standout performers at the tournament, scoring three goals in five appearances and establishing himself as one of the team’s main attacking threats.
