Morocco’s U17 women’s national team were eliminated from the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, October 28, after a heavy 6-0 defeat to defending champions North Korea at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

The Atlas Lionesses reached the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stage but were unable to match the North Koreans, who quickly took control of the game.

Under the watchful eye of Morocco’s national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi, the Atlas Lionesses were outclassed by North Korea, who quickly took control of the match. Yu Jong Hyang (6th, 40th) and Kim Won Sim (33rd, 41st) scored the four first-half goals.

Morocco tried to reduce the deficit after the break but struggled against a well-organized and far superior North Korean side. Ri Ui Gyong scored the fifth goal before Ri Kyong Im made it 6-0.

Morocco had opened the tournament with a commanding 4-0 win over New Zealand before suffering consecutive defeats to Germany (4-2) and Argentina (5-1).

Morocco is hosting the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the second consecutive year, having staged the 2025 edition.

The Kingdom will also host the next three editions of the tournament under a new FIFA format that expands participation to 24 national teams.
