Marc Marquez moved another step closer to the 2026 MotoGP world title on Sunday, November 1, after dominating the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang to claim his seventh Grand Prix victory of the season. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider crossed the finish line 4.1 seconds ahead of Pedro Acosta, strengthening his grip on the championship with three rounds remaining.

Marquez now holds a 44-point advantage over injured rival Jorge Martin, who missed the Malaysian race, while Marco Bezzecchi sits third, 67 points behind the championship leader after finishing sixth. With the title race increasingly tilting in his favor, the Spaniard could secure his eighth premier-class crown as early as next weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix.

The victory also brings Marquez closer to a landmark achievement in his career. An eighth MotoGP title would put him level with Giacomo Agostini’s record of eight premier-class championships, while taking his overall tally to 10 world titles across all categories, including his previous triumphs in the smaller classes.

At Sepang, Marquez made an immediate statement. Starting alongside his younger brother Alex, who had taken pole position, he immediately too the lead despite an early challenge from the Gresini rider. Alex ran wide at Turn 4, allowing the championship leader to stay ahead as Acosta moved into contention.

The KTM rider eventually passed Alex on Lap 10 to take second place, but Marquez had already begun to pull away. He built an advantage of more than two seconds and continued to control the race, eventually finishing 4.1 seconds clear of Acosta. Alex completed the podium, 0.8 seconds ahead of Ai Ogura.

The result was particularly costly for Bezzecchi, who had another opportunity to reduce the gap but made a mistake at Turn 14 on the final lap. He finished sixth, behind Enea Bastianini, and now trails Marquez by 67 points.

The championship could be decided in Qatar, where Marquez has his first opportunity to secure the title. He needs to outscore Martin by at least 30 points over the weekend to extend his current 44-point advantage to 74. With only two rounds remaining afterwards, Portugal and Valencia, and a maximum of 74 points still available, Martin would then be unable to catch him. Marquez must also gain at least 8 points on Bezzecchi to secure the required margin over his other remaining title rival.
