CAF President Patrice Motsepe has set the date for his next tour, during which he will assess the latest developments and the readiness of the countries hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the WinWin website, although Motsepe has stressed that there is no alternative plan to replace Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda as hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations, the CAF president will wait until next January before making an official assessment of the three countries’ readiness. By then, less than five months will remain before the tournament is due to begin.

The same source said that determining the tournament’s fate would be difficult if the three countries are deemed unprepared in January, adding further uncertainty over the future of the next edition.

The report added that “all options under consideration will be discussed,” including postponing the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations from 2027 to 2028 and holding only one edition, while launching a trial edition of the African Nations League in September 2027.

If the tournament cannot be held according to the proposed schedule, one of the countries ready to host it could be chosen, as happened in 2019 when Egypt hosted the tournament instead of Cameroon.

The same source concluded that CAF has yet to decide on the arrangements for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, particularly regarding the opening match and the final, regardless of whether the host countries are ready to stage the competition.
