After a period away from coaching following his spell with the Atlas Lions, Regragui is said to be one of the names under consideration as Ecuador searches for a successor to Argentine coach Sebastián Beccacece.

According to Ecuadorian journalist Roberto Bonafont, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach, who also guided Morocco to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, would be open to taking over the Ecuador national team if negotiations move forward.

The FEF is also reportedly considering several other candidates, including Paulo Bento, Marcelo Gallardo, Eduardo Domínguez, Miguel Ángel Ramírez and Robert Moreno.

According to Ecuadorian outlet El Diario, the federation hopes to appoint its new head coach before the second week of August in order to prepare for the international windows scheduled for September, October and November.

Regragui left his role as Morocco head coach in March after reaching a mutual agreement with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
