Norway, solid at the back and inspired by two late goals from Erling Haaland, defeated Brazil 2-1 on Sunday in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in East Rutherford, just outside New York.
The Seleção, who will therefore miss out on a sixth World Cup title this year, squandered an early penalty when outstanding Norway goalkeeper Ørjan Håskjold Nyland denied Bruno Guimarães from the spot in the 13th minute. He could not keep out a second penalty, however, as Neymar converted deep into stoppage time, but it came too late to alter the result.
Norway will play the first World Cup quarterfinal in its history against England, who qualified by defeating Mexico 3-2 later that day.
