American magazine Forbes has highlighted the strategic vision behind the Nador West Med port and industrial complex, which is preparing to inaugurate the first phase of its main container terminal. The project reflects King Mohammed VI’s ambition to establish Morocco as a major maritime, industrial and logistics hub connecting Africa with Europe and global markets, the magazine said.

Acting on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan launched, Saturday in the commune of Iaazzanene (Nador Province), operations at the first container terminal at the Port of Nador West Med, marking the inaugural step in the operationalization of the Nador West Med industrial-port complex, which mobilized MAD 54 billion of public and private investment.

King Mohammed VI chaired a meeting at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday, October 28, to review preparations for the opening of Nador West Med and the expansion of Tanger Med. With MAD 8 billion being invested in the new Tanger Med 3 port and MAD 54 billion committed to Nador West Med, Morocco is expanding its port and energy infrastructure. The challenge through 2035 will be to turn that investment into industrial activity, jobs and lasting economic gains for the surrounding regions.

King Mohammed VI chaired a working session at the Royal Palace in Rabat on Wednesday to review progress on major port infrastructure projects in the kingdom. Discussions focused on the imminent opening of the first terminal at Nador West Med and the launch of construction work on the Tanger Med 3 expansion.

Documents accompanying Morocco’s draft 2027 Finance Bill provide an update on the country’s major infrastructure projects. Construction of Dakhla Atlantic port was 70% complete by mid-September 2026, while Nador West Med is preparing to move from construction to pre-operational testing.

The development of the Mar Chica lagoon in Nador has entered a new phase following the approval of a new land-use plan for the strategic site, setting the framework for future urban development and investment in the area.

Across several cities in the Kingdom, north, central and south, construction and equipment work is currently underway on a number of major projects, backed by massive investments that could transform Morocco’s landscape before 2030.

The East Terminal at Nador West Med port has completed its operational preparations and is now ready to welcome its first commercial calls, West Med Container Terminal (WMCT), the terminal concessionaire and a subsidiary of Marsa Maroc and TIL, announced.
