A 27km section of the motorway being built to connect Nador West Med to the national motorway network is more than 95pc complete, with final road signs and finishing work now under way.
The section runs from National Road No. 2 at the Driouch interchange to National Road No. 16, taking the motorway to within eight kilometers of the Nador West Med port complex.
Ilyasse El Mouden, representing project owner National Highways Company, told Le360 that teams were installing horizontal and vertical road signs and completing the remaining technical work ahead of the section’s opening to traffic.
The Guercif-Nador West Med motorway represents an investment of nearly MAD7.8bn and is intended to provide the port and industrial complex with a direct connection to the motorway network.
Work is less advanced on the project’s second section, a 40km stretch between National Road No. 2 and Saka, where construction has reached 8pc.

El Mouden said the terrain required extensive engineering works. Some 11 million cubic meters of earthworks and excavation have been carried out so far.
Six major structures to cross waterways have been built, along with another 16 structures comprising underpasses and overpasses.
El Mouden said the motorway had been designed and built entirely by Moroccan companies and specialists, including construction contractors, technical laboratories and engineering firms involved in supervising and monitoring the work.
