Morocco’s Embassy in Indonesia hosted a Moroccan-Indonesian musical evening in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, highlighting intercultural dialogue and the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
Attended by Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon, the event, held in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture, brought together senior officials, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Jakarta, as well as representatives from academic, cultural and media circles.
The evening featured a unique cultural exchange between a Moroccan Andalusian music ensemble that travelled from Morocco and Indonesia’s traditional music group “Muara”, showcasing the richness of both countries’ cultural heritage and the role of music as a bridge between peoples.
Speaking at the event, Indonesian Culture minister praised the initiative as a reflection of the depth of historical ties between Rabat and Jakarta.
Recalling the centuries-old links between the two nations, dating back to the journey of Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta in the 14th century, as well as the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Jakarta, Zon highlighted culture’s role in fostering dialogue, mutual understanding and stronger bilateral relations.
Morocco’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, stressed the symbolic significance of the gathering, describing it as a celebration of a deep-rooted friendship built on mutual respect, trust and shared values.
The diplomat underlined that music, as a universal language capable of transcending borders and differences, remains a powerful tool for bringing peoples closer together, highlighting Moroccan Andalusian music as one of the Kingdom’s cultural treasures and a living expression of a centuries-old civilization.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to elevating bilateral relations, particularly in the cultural field, to a level reflecting the excellence of ties between the two countries and opening new avenues of cooperation in areas of common interest.
On the sidelines of the evening, Houssaini also held talks with the Indonesian Culture Minister, several ambassadors accredited in Jakarta, and representatives from the cultural, academic and business sectors.
The initiative is part of the efforts by Morocco’s Embassy in Indonesia to promote cultural diplomacy as a tool for strengthening people-to-people ties and consolidating friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Indonesia.
