Morocco’s cinema market grows in 2025 with more screens and stronger ticket sales

Moroccan cinemas sold more than 2.18 million tickets in 2025, generating nearly MAD 130 million ($14 million) in box office revenue. But behind those figures lies a highly concentrated market, with the vast majority of ticket sales controlled by just two cinema operators.

According to Morocco’s 2025 cinema industry report, theaters across the country sold 2,186,106 tickets during the year, generating total box office revenue of MAD 129.78 million ($14 million). The country had 87 active cinema screens operating across multiple cities.

Megarama remained the country’s largest cinema operator, accounting for 56.87% of total box office revenue. Its network of 48 screens spread across six theaters in five cities generated more than MAD 73.8 million.

Pathé ranked second with a 33.90% market share, recording nearly MAD 44 million in revenue from 12 screens across two cities.

Combined, the two operators accounted for 90.77% of Morocco’s total box office revenue in 2025.

Cinéma Atlas ranked third with a 3.61% share of the market, while the remaining revenue was split among several smaller cinema operators.

Casablanca continued to dominate the country’s cinema market. Pathé Californie alone sold 519,565 tickets, generating MAD 43.65 million in revenue. Megarama’s Casablanca theaters recorded 572,353 admissions and generated more than MAD 30.23 million.

The number of cinema screens also continued to grow. Morocco had 87 active screens in 2025, up from 78 in 2024, 81 in 2023, and 70 in 2022.

To support the sector, Morocco’s Cinema Support Fund allocated MAD 15.90 million in 2025 for the digitalization, construction, and modernization of movie theaters. The funding included MAD 2.5 million for digitalization, MAD 4 million for modernization projects, and MAD 9.4 million for the construction of new cinemas.
