The historic Chellah site in Rabat is hosting a range of cultural activities to help visitors, particularly foreign tourists, discover Morocco’s heritage. Exhibitions, 3D content and a reading space now complement the historic tour.
Several cultural activities are being organized at Chellah to better guide tourists, especially those from abroad, as they explore the Moroccan heritage site.
This week, organizers introduced an exhibition dedicated to Moroccan zellige tilework, a virtual 3D presentation of the Quranic school and a library space where visitors can browse a wide selection of books.
“We will continue to schedule a variety of activities to help people learn more about Chellah and Moroccan cultural heritage,” a site official said.
According to the official, this cultural program helps attract significant numbers of Moroccan and foreign tourists while offering visitors a more comprehensive experience.
Located in Rabat on the left bank of the Bouregreg River, Chellah is surrounded by emblematic ramparts dating back to the Marinid period. Its remains bear witness to several periods in the site’s history, from the ancient city of Sala Colonia to the extensive Marinid necropolis established there during the Middle Ages.
The visitor route also features information and directional signs to help visitors better understand the site’s history and layout.
Relaxation areas, including cafés and restaurants, round out the facilities available to the public.
