Tangier’s medina is preparing to host the first scenes of the fourth installment in “The Mummy” franchise. Since Saturday, the Kasbah and Bab El Bhar squares, facing the port of Tangier Ville, have been transformed for filming scheduled to start on Monday, October 26. In the heart of the old city, the sets recreate the atmosphere of traditional Moroccan markets.

The transformation is visible in both the narrow streets and the squares. Stalls, new signs and various set elements have been installed to give the area the appearance of traditional souks. After several days of preparation, the set-design teams have completed the final adjustments. Production trucks and other vehicles have also moved into the area.

The installations mark the start of an operation requiring substantial personnel and logistical resources. Several crew members arrived in Tangier on Friday evening, while local authorities have put arrangements in place to support the shoot. Their priority is to secure the locations while keeping traffic moving through this part of the medina, which attracts large numbers of visitors.

Security services, auxiliary forces, Civil Protection teams and local authority officials have been deployed around the filming locations. Their presence is intended to manage movement and allow them to intervene if necessary during filming.

The scale of the project is also reflected in the size of the crew expected on site. According to information released about the production, around 1,240 people will take part in the shoot. The announced cast includes Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Oded Fehr. The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

For Tangier, the shoot marks the franchise’s return after more than 18 years, according to information about the project. With its historic architecture and traditional spaces, the medina offers a fitting backdrop for the visual world the production aims to recreate, highlighting the appeal of the city’s natural locations to international film crews.
