Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA), a subsidiary of Tanger Med Special Agency (TMSA), has announced the financial ratings assigned to it by the two leading international credit rating agencies, Moody’s Ratings and Standard & Poor’s Global Ratings.
Moody’s assigned TMPA a final Baa3 rating with a stable outlook, placing it one notch above Morocco’s sovereign rating. The agency also assigned the operator a Scorecard-Indicated Outcome of Baa1 through the end of 2025, equivalent to three notches above the sovereign rating. The agency noted that it is uncommon for even high-performing companies to receive ratings above those of their home countries.
Standard & Poor’s, meanwhile, assigned TMPA a BBB- rating with a stable outlook. It also gave the port operator a stand-alone credit profile (SACP) of “bbb,” one notch higher than Morocco’s sovereign rating.
Beyond the ratings themselves, both agencies highlighted the company’s underlying strengths.
They pointed to TMPA’s strategic geographic position at the crossroads of major intercontinental shipping routes, as well as its established leadership in transshipment operations in the western Mediterranean.
The agencies also cited the company’s customer base as a key asset, noting its long-term concession agreements with major global shipping lines, including A.P. Moller-Maersk, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd.

According to the reports, TMPA also benefits from pricing flexibility and commercial resilience, enabling it to adapt to changes in global maritime trade. The operator is viewed as playing a strategic role in strengthening Morocco’s integration into international markets.
TMPA said the publication of these ratings marks the culmination of more than four years of engagement with major international credit rating agencies as part of a strategy centered on financial transparency and sound corporate governance.
The company said the recognition strengthens its credibility with international investors, particularly as it seeks financing for its development program.
A subsidiary of TMSA, TMPA manages the port infrastructure of Tanger Med, including Tanger Med 1 and Tanger Med 2, as well as the passenger and roll-on/roll-off port, all key components of Morocco’s international logistics platform.
