The veteran journalist, who hosted 2M’s “Mais encore” between 2007 and 2018, leaves a lasting mark on the Moroccan and French media landscape.

Moroccan journalist Hamid Barrada died at dawn on Saturday, September 26, at the age of 87. He will be laid to rest at Arrahma Cemetery following the Al Asr prayer.

Barrada hosted “Mais encore,” the popular 2M program that aired between 2007 and 2018. The veteran journalist left his mark on both the Moroccan and French media landscapes. He was also the father of Yto Barrada, founder of the Cinémathèque de Tanger. He died overnight from Friday to Saturday at the age of 87.

Born in Tangier in 1939, Barrada held degrees in philosophy, law and political sociology before joining the weekly Jeune Afrique, where he became a senior reporter.

He later served as the magazine’s editor-in-chief from 1974 to 1985 while also working as a regular contributor, before being appointed Maghreb/Middle East director at French-language television channel TV5.
