Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang, stated that Morocco and Senegal share strong, rich, and lasting relations, unique in Africa.
Following discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, in Luanda on Saturday, August 29, Niang emphasized the closeness and continuous development of this relationship, aligning with the expectations of both countries’ leaders.
Speaking to the press after the talks, held on the sidelines of the 26th extraordinary session of the African Union Executive Council, the Senegalese minister expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation, the enduring friendship between the Moroccan and Senegalese peoples, and the distinctiveness of their relationship.
Niang highlighted both sides’ commitment to maintaining their current momentum. He noted that the discussions covered various issues of common interest, revealing shared perspectives on all matters addressed.
“There are no disagreements. This signifies that our cooperation continues steadfastly, and we are determined to elevate it further,” he stated.
Bourita reciprocated, explaining that the meeting upheld the two countries’ tradition of regular consultations on bilateral, regional, and continental matters. It also served as an opportunity to discuss the clear directives from King Mohammed VI and the Senegalese president “to ensure the agenda of this bilateral relationship remains rich and dynamic.”
“Everything we do will still fall short of what this unique bilateral relationship deserves. No other country in Africa shares the same relationship that Morocco and Senegal have cultivated over decades,” Bourita affirmed.
The minister added that they also discussed a roadmap for their bilateral relationship, outlining its implementation and steps to activate various cooperation mechanisms.
Bourita concluded by stating that they reaffirmed their ongoing coordination on issues concerning the Sahel, Atlantic Africa, and other regional and multilateral matters pertinent to the African continent.
