A 3.3km railway tunnel is under construction between the Bouregreg Valley and Rabat Agdal station as part of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line.
The ONCF project carries a price tag of around MAD1.4 billion, with the contract awarded to a consortium of SGTM and Sinohydro Bureau 5.
The main tunnel will run for 2.75km and carry two tracks. It will be followed by a 50-meter open section and then a 500-meter covered trench carrying four tracks as the line approaches Rabat Agdal.
The works will bring the new high-speed tracks into Rabat Agdal and connect them with the existing railway infrastructure.
Across the Bouregreg, a second project is under construction to give pedestrians another way of moving between Rabat and Salé.

The Bouregreg Valley Development Agency is building a footbridge over the river, supported by structures placed in the riverbed.
Platforms are planned at both ends of the bridge, providing stopping and viewing areas for pedestrians.
