A multidisciplinary medical caravan was held on Saturday in the urban center of Skhour Rhamna in Rehamna province as part of the National Initiative for Human Development’s (INDH) ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services in the area.

Organized by the Provincial Human Development Committee (CPDH) in partnership with the Association of Doctors, Pharmacists and Dentists of Rhamna (AMPDR), the “Les Rangs d’Honneur” association, the Moroccan Association for Oral and Dental Prevention (AMPBD) and the Provincial Health and Social Protection Delegation, the initiative sought to improve access to healthcare by bringing medical examinations and consultations closer to residents, particularly in rural areas, while strengthening prevention and early detection among vulnerable groups.

Residents of the urban center and neighboring communes benefited from consultations and examinations across several specialties, including general medicine, pediatrics, maternal and child health, ophthalmology, dentistry, dermatology, cardiology, respiratory diseases, urology, gastroenterology and otorhinolaryngology, as well as other medical services.

Youssef Souissi, a representative of the Social Action Division (DAS) in Rehamna province, told the press that the caravan forms part of an integrated healthcare program supported by the INDH.

The program includes the acquisition of three ambulances at a cost of 1.5 million dirhams (MDH) and a medically equipped ambulance worth 1.2 MDH, as well as support for medical caravans through human resources, with funding of 1.1 MDH.

The INDH has also allocated 3 MDH to equip three maternity homes in the communes of Skhour Rhamna, Sidi Bouothmane and Ras El Ain, along with 900,000 dirhams to rehabilitate and equip a mobile ophthalmology and oral and dental care unit.

The initiative also supports the community relay workers (PRC) system and community healthcare services in several areas of the province, he added.

These measures reflect the INDH’s efforts to strengthen access to local healthcare and reduce barriers to medical treatment by combining equipment, medical transport, human resources, medical caravans and mobile services, with particular attention to maternal and child health and people most in need of care, Souissi said.

Dr. Mohamed Soufiane Bensalam, president of the AMPDR, said the medical caravan provides residents with consultations and examinations as well as free medicines. He added that surgical procedures are also being carried out as part of the initiative at Benguerir Provincial Hospital for patients requiring surgical care.

He said the choice of Skhour Rhamna’s urban center for the caravan was particularly aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to residents, given the shortage of certain medical specialties in the area.

The initiative is intended to facilitate access to care and help provide treatment for people who face difficulties traveling to specialized medical facilities, he added.

Dr. Nourredine Bennani, founder of the “Les Rangs d’Honneur” association, said the organization is taking part in the caravan with a team of 45 specialist doctors. The team also includes specialists in general surgery and gynecological surgery, who are performing surgical procedures at Benguerir Provincial Hospital.

Beyond medical care, the association is also contributing through prevention and support activities, including workshops to identify children experiencing difficulties with their schooling, as well as music and painting workshops. The program also includes awareness activities focused on oral and dental health and road safety, he added.

The INDH in Rehamna province allocated more than 9.5 MDH in its 2026 budget to support healthcare infrastructure and services, medical transport, medical caravans, maternal and child health and mobile healthcare services.
