Traffic has increased on the highway linking Ain Dalia to Tanger Med port as Moroccans living abroad begin returning to their countries of residence. This increase is expected to continue through the end of August.
Higher traffic volumes have been recorded along the highway toward the port, particularly around the Melloussa interchange and toll station. Hundreds of families are making their way back to Europe after spending the summer in Morocco. Some drivers are stopping near Melloussa and the port to buy ferry tickets or await their departure time.
At Tanger Med, authorities have stepped up preparations to manage the return of Moroccans living in European countries, particularly the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, and Italy. Security forces, customs officers, and teams from the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity are involved in the operation.

A Royal Gendarmerie motorcycle unit is managing traffic between the Melloussa interchange and Tanger Med to prevent congestion, as vehicle numbers are expected to rise in the coming days.
Traffic is also being managed at the entrance to the port’s boarding area. Authorities are preparing for heavier traffic on Saturday and Sunday, when an increase in vehicles and passengers is anticipated.
Sources indicate that preparations for the return of millions of Moroccans living abroad are ongoing. This effort falls under a coordinated plan by the authorities of Fahs-Anjra province and Tanger Med port to manage the expected traffic surge during this peak period.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is overseeing the return operation from June 10 to September 15. This initiative involves 26 reception centers: 20 in Morocco and six across Spain, France, and Italy. These centers offer social, administrative, and medical services. The foundation has mobilized over 1,134 social workers, 105 doctors, and 111 nurses to assist travelers.
