Judicial police in Tangier arrested a 22-year-old extremist affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS on Friday, October 9, based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

According to a statement from the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), a search conducted as part of the case led to the seizure of handwritten documents detailing criminal methods used in cyberattacks, as well as electronic equipment, including a modified phone connected to electrical wires.

Investigators also seized equipment including a device and soldering wires, batteries, adhesive tape, nails, electrical circuit breakers and welding goggles. Solid and liquid chemical substances suspected of being used to prepare and manufacture explosives were also found. They will undergo technical and scientific analysis to determine their composition and why they were in the suspect’s possession.

Preliminary findings from the investigation and surveillance indicate that the suspect had begun preparing terrorist plots in Morocco after conducting initial tests to manufacture explosive devices, the same source said.

The suspect was brought before the BCIJ and placed in police custody as part of an investigation conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office responsible for terrorism cases. The investigation aims to establish the full scope of the alleged plots and determine whether the suspect had links to other individuals or networks inside or outside Morocco.
