After leading Orlando Pirates to the South African league title with a dominant season, the Moroccan coach received the league’s highest individual coaching honor by being named Coach of the Season.
Appointed in the summer of 2025, Ouaddou enjoyed a remarkable first campaign with the Buccaneers. His side remained among the title contenders throughout the season before eventually finishing on top of the PSL standings, ahead of perennial favorites Mamelodi Sundowns.
During an exceptional campaign, the Moroccan manager also became the first coach in PSL history to record 11 consecutive home victories across all competitions, setting a new league record during the 2025–26 season.
“It was a great season for the team and the club. (...) We play in the best league in Africa. I am very honored to be coaching in the PSL,” Ouaddou said after receiving the award, according to comments broadcast by South African television channel SABC Sport.
The Moroccan coach added: “Without the players, the coach is nothing. I thank my team, and we hope to have another great season next year.”
Given what his team achieved this season, there is every reason to believe him. After leaving his mark on South African football, Abdeslam Ouaddou has also become the first Moroccan coach to win the PSL Coach of the Season award.
