Ayoub El Kaabi was taken to hospital on Saturday after suffering a worrying injury during Olympiacos’ Greek Super League match away to Volos.

The Atlas Lions striker was hurt following a collision with Volos goalkeeper Marios Siampanis shortly before half-time. Greek reports said El Kaabi was left in considerable pain as players called for medical assistance.

He was treated on the pitch before being stretchered off and taken directly to hospital.

El Kaabi was replaced by Armando Gonzalez.

The collision also resulted in a penalty for Olympiacos, converted by Jota Silva, who dedicated his goal to the Moroccan striker.

The extent of El Kaabi’s injury has yet to be confirmed, with medical examinations expected to determine the diagnosis and how long he could be sidelined. Reports suggesting a possible fracture had not been medically confirmed at the time of publication.

The injury also leaves El Kaabi’s availability in doubt for the Atlas Lions’ gathering later this month, when Morocco are due to play two AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
