Morocco international Yassir Zabiri has been included in the Team of the Week for the third matchday of Spain’s La Liga following an outstanding performance for Racing Santander.
The Moroccan forward scored a hat-trick in just 21 minutes as Racing beat Elche 3-2 on Friday, playing a standout role in the club’s first league victory of the season.
The performance also saw Zabiri enter Racing Santander’s history books, joining a select group of players to have scored three goals in a single match in Spain’s top flight.
Racing Santander announced Zabiri’s arrival from French club Rennes on July 29. The 20-year-old joined the Cantabrian side on loan for the 2026-27 season as he looks to gain more playing time and continue his development in Spanish football.
A product of Morocco’s Mohammed VI Football Academy, the Marrakech-born forward was one of the standout players and the top scorer at the most recent U20 World Cup in Chile.
Zabiri began playing football at a young age with KAC Marrakech, where he spent two seasons before joining the Mohammed VI Football Academy at the age of 10.
He spent nine years at the academy before joining Union Touarga Sport, where he made his professional debut in January 2024. He then moved to Portugal to join FC Famalicão before later signing for Rennes.
