FIFA confirmed Monday, August 17, that Kevin Lamour had left his position as the governing body’s director general of operations.
“FIFA can confirm that the collaboration between FIFA and Kevin Lamour, in his capacity as FIFA’s director general of operations, ended on August 17, 2026,” a FIFA representative told AFP after the news was first reported by The Athletic.
“FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him the best for the future. No further comment will be made on this matter,” the representative added.

Lamour, who previously worked for UEFA, had held the position since November 2024, overseeing key administrative areas including legal affairs, communications and human resources.
He was one of the highest-ranking FIFA officials to publicly criticize Infantino’s proposal to open the governing body to private investors. Although the plan has since been abandoned, it has continued to fuel debate over FIFA’s governance as the Swiss-Italian seeks re-election in March 2027.
“This is the project of one person (...) Not only should this project not see the light of day... but the time has now come for the leaders of the football world to ask themselves the right questions and make the right decisions,” Lamour wrote in a statement sent to the Associated Press and published on July 31.

FIFA employees “deserve better than contempt and intimidation,” he added. “If that means I lose my job, so be it (...) I will understand and respect that decision. At least I will sleep well tonight.”
Lamour was not the only senior FIFA official to distance himself from Infantino. Former coach Arsène Wenger and FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, regarded as the organization’s No. 2, both welcomed the abandonment of the private investment plan.
