The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations ended Sunday, August 16, at Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat with Cameroon crowned champions, while the Atlas Lionesses dropped in the FIFA ranking.
Defeated by Algeria on penalties in the third-place playoff (1-1, 3-2 on penalties), Jorge Vilda’s side finished fourth in the competition.

The Atlas Lionesses are 64th in the world with 1,402.24 points and fourth in Africa. They sit behind Ghana (60th), South Africa (57th) and Nigeria (36th).
The Atlas Lionesses are now focused on preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Brazil from June 24 to July 25.
Cameroon, Malawi and Algeria have also qualified for the group stage, while South Africa and Ghana must go through the intercontinental playoffs and will not know their fate until February 2027. For the first time in history, Nigeria will miss the global tournament.
