Ismael Saibari was forced off during Saturday’s Klassiker between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund after injuring his ankle in a collision with Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
The Moroccan midfielder, who started the Matchday 8 Bundesliga clash, had been through on goal and was in an excellent position to open the scoring but failed to finish. He then collided with Kobel and hurt his ankle.
Saibari remained on the ground before leaving the pitch limping. He appeared to be in considerable pain and was unable to put weight on his foot.
The injury is a concern for both Bayern Munich and Morocco’s national team, who are due to face Niger on November 13 and 17 in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
National team coach Mohamed Ouahbi, who is set to announce his squad on Wednesday, November 4, will be monitoring the midfielder’s condition closely. He is already without Azzedine Ounahi, who recently underwent surgery for a complete tear of the tendon in his right biceps femoris muscle.
Further medical examinations should reveal more about the nature and severity of Saibari’s injury.
